William Patterson was born ca. 1845 in Alabama. At this time I do not know which part of AL they lived in during the 1830's and '40's. William was living with his parents in Rusk Co TX in 1860.
In 1862, William's three older brothers enlisted in the 14th Texas Cavalry Regiment, the first of five regiments formed by Colonel Middleton Tate Johnson, the uncle of William Patterson. For more about Col. Johnson, see http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/JJ/fjo20.html.
Nothing else has been found on William Patterson after the 1860 census, after much searching. It is very possible that he died during the Civil War. There were a number of W. Pattersons and William Pattersons enlisted from TX, but nothing conclusive has been found.
