Robert L. Patterson was born October 20, 1839 in Alabama. At this time I do not know which part of AL they lived in during the 1830's and '40's. Robert was living with his parents in Rusk Co TX in 1860.
In 1862, Robert enlisted in the 14th Texas Cavalry Regiment, the first of five regiments formed by Colonel Middleton Tate Johnson, the uncle of Robert L. Patterson. For more about Col. Johnson, see http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/JJ/fjo20.html.
Others from the Pattersons who served in the 14th TX Cavalry were Robert's brothers, Mid and Berry, plus their first cousins Wilson Lumpkin Patterson and John J. Patterson. There was also a Thomas T. Patterson in the same company, relation yet unknown.
On March 12, 1868 Robert married Frances A. "Fannie" Monroe in TX. They had at least five children, as follows:
Robert L. Patterson died in 1897 in Nacogdoches Co., Tx and is buried in Old Moss Cemetery, Nacogdoches Co., Tx along with his wife and brother Mid. Robert's wife was still living in 1885.
On August 9, 2005 I spoke with Bob Patterson and his sister, Bonita Patterson Lowrie. Bob and Bonita are children of Bertram Patterson (b. 1895), son of Buck Patterson (listed above). Bonita is helping to fill in the branch that descends from Buck Patterson. They still live in the Nacogdoches Co., TX area today.
