William Craven Patterson was born November 06, 1813 in Buncombe Co., NC. On February 17, 1836 he married Elizabeth "Eliza" Denton in Hall Co., Ga. Eliza was born July 28, 1818 in GA, the daughter of John and Hannah McCord Denton.
William and Eliza had at least 15 children, as follows:

William and several of his sons and sons-in-law served in the Civil War. William was killed during the war by a Union sniper's bullet. This happened at the Battle of Jonesboro in Clayton Co., GA. At least one son (Joseph Denton Patterson) and one son-in-law (Richard Beck) were also killed during the war. It was said that William's widow, Eliza, died as a result of heart ache. She passed away on November 06, 1864 in Wilkes Co., GA.
