Amos Patterson was born ca. 1822 in Habersham Co., Ga. On October 02, 1844 he married Jane Eliza King in Union Co., Ga. Jane was born January 22, 1825 in Buncombe Co., NC, the daughter of John and Elizabeth B. Clark King. Three Patterson siblings married three King siblings, by the way.

Amos and Jane had at least nine children, as follows:

  1. Mary Elizabeth Patterson (1845 - 1906); m. Jesse Stiles
  2. James Solomon Patterson (1847 - 1917)
  3. Nancey M. Patterson (c.1849 - 1862)
  4. William Rickmon Patterson (1851 - 1922)
  5. Lucinda Jane Patterson (c.1853 - ?); m. William Luther Chapman
  6. Joseph Wilson Patterson (1855 - 1900)
  7. Margaret Loucindy Patterson (1857 - 1928); m. Julius Pinkney Norwood; m. Simon Lee Ruff
  8. Jesse Ulyssus Patterson (1860 - 1862)
  9. Virginia Ann Patterson (1862 - ?)

The Civil War ripped the Pattersons and Kings apart. Many family members served in the war, and several from each side of the family died during the war. Amos died on December 22, 1863 at Fort Sumter, Charleston, SC. He is buried there in Magnolia Cemetery.

The rest of the family moved to Texas after the war. Jane died there on January 08, 1899 in Red River Co., Tx. She is buried in Bluff Cemetery, near Detroit, Tx. The following picture is of Jane and many members of the family. Jane is in the lower left corner.
