The
oldest son of George and Rebecca Chastain Patterson was James Patterson. "Jim", as family records listed him, was born in Rabun Co GA circa 1826. He is accounted for in the census records of his father, George, in 1830 (Rabun Co GA), 1834 (Union Co GA), and 1840 (Union Co GA). However, by 1850 Jim was no longer living in Union Co GA.
It could be that he went by a middle name as did his younger brother Kimsey. Both James and Kimsey were gone from Union by 1850. Furthermore, they have not yet been located in 1850 either. Kimsey was in Rusk Co TX by 1853, but James was not.
If anyone has any information as to what happened to James Patterson, I would certainly love to know. It is possible that he died between 1840 and 1850. Or, he could have moved elsewhere by 1850 and could have died during the Civil War. For a certainty, all of the other sons of George served in the Civil War, so that's a strong possibility.
