George Patterson's Children:

This Page Was Last Updated On September 29, 2005.

The seventh child of George and Rebecca Chastain Patterson was Elijah M. Patterson. Elijah enlisted as a Sergeant, 52nd Georgia Infantry, Co. G, in the Confederate Army, on March 4, 1862. There was an Elijah M. Patterson who also served in the 41st Tenn. Infantry, Co. K, and also for the 6th Alabama Infantry, Co. D, both Confederate. Was this the same Elijah M. Patterson? I'm not sure at this time.

Elijah was born ca. 1839 in Union Co GA. He was listed in his father's household in Union Co GA in 1850 and 1860 also. After the war between the States, Elijah moved to Benton Co., Arkansas. There he married Vienna Duckworth on September 12, 1869. Vienna was born ca 1850 in GA. She was the daughter of Robert and Lucinda Hall Duckworth.

Elijah and Vienna were still living in Benton Co AR in 1880, in the town of Hico. Elijah and Vienna had the following children:

  • Albert Patterson, b. May 1872, Benton Co., AR; d. aft. 1910, Tx (possibly Grayson Co)
  • Minnie Patterson, b. 1873, Gentry, Benton Co., AR; d. Monarch, Alberta, Canada
  • Lulu Cyndia Patterson, b. 11-2-1875, Benton Co., AR; d. 4-8-1948, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
  • Robert Patterson, b. 1880, Hico, Benton Co., AR
  • Fred Patterson, b. ca. 1881, AR, MO, or Tx; d. 7-16-1966, Spokane City, Spokane County, WA
  • daughter, b. aft. 1881; died as child
  • Casey Patterson (female), b. Aft. 1881
  • Charles "Charlie" Shannon Patterson, b. aft. 1881; d. Wichita Falls, Tx

After 1880, they moved to Tx. According to one of their descendants, Elijah and Vienna and some of their descendants died in Wichita Falls, Wichita Co., Tx. I have not been able to verify this. As shown in the above list, at least three of Elijah's children and their families moved to the state of Washington in the late 1800's, i.e. Minnie, Lulu, and Fred. While Fred settled in the Spokane City area of WA, the two sisters and their families moved into Canada in 1901 and became Canadian citizens. Their descendants to this day are Canadians.

Three different descendants of these two daughters of Elijah have found my web site over the last few years and contacted me, filling in more of the details of this line of the family. Joseph Morgan Ives was the first to contact me. He is a descendant of Lulu Cyndia Patterson who married Joseph Morgan Cox. According to family tradition, Cox was a son of Charles P. Joseph Cox, a Colonel for the Confederacy during the Civil War. I have no documentation to prove this however (the Colonel part, that is). Joseph Cox and Lulu Patterson were married in Missouri, supposedly, sometime prior to 1901. Their oldest child was Charlotte "Lottie" May Cox, b. January 09, 1901 in Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA. Lottie married Harry Earl Ives on April 18, 1923. They were the ancestors of Joseph Morgan Ives, my cousin who contacted me several years ago.

Another descendant of Lulu Patterson and Joseph Cox who has contacted me in recent years is Lyle Braden. Actually, his wife Evelyn Jean Scott (Braden) is the one who is the descendant. Evelyn's mother was Julia Evelyn Elizabeth Cox (Scott), who in turn was the daughter of Lulu Patterson and Joseph Cox.

A third descendand of Elijah who has contacted me is Ericka Browne. Ericka descends from Elijah's daughter Minnie Patterson, who married John (Johnny) Wright. Minnie and Johnny were married October 10, 1901 in Macleod, Alberta, CANADA. Their daughter Evy Wright married William John "Jack" Beaton. Their daughter Marjorie Beaton married Cecil Browne. Their son David Browne is the father of Ericka.

Elijah died after 1880, presumeably in Wichata Falls, Tx. Again, I cannot prove that. Any further information that anyone might find and share with me about Elijah M. Patterson and/or any of his descendants, would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.
