My name
is Charles Wesley Patterson, Sr., and I was born in Decatur, Ga.
in 1968. Decatur is in DeKalb County, and is a suburb of Atlanta.
My paternal ancestors, starting with my father and going all the
way back to my gggg-grandfather, were from North Georgia. My
gggg-grandparents were John & Margaret
Black PATTERSON. My
ancestors settled mostly in the area of Union and Fannin Counties
of Georgia, which is near the Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee
borders. Some of the maternal lines also settled in the western
NC counties of Macon and Cherokee, and in some cases family settled
in Tennessee.
I have
so much information growing on the PATTERSON family that I have separated
that data onto several pages, beginning with the John
and Margaret Black Patterson page, which links to additional pages
specific to each of their children.
In
July, 2002 a friend of mine and cousin from
the Patterson line (Harald Reksten) made an
important trip to the South Carolina Archives
to do on-site research of Robert Patterson's
1775 will. Robert
Patterson was my gggggg-Grandfather, who
lived from the early 1700's until 1775. Harald
was able to take some very good quality photos
of the different sections of this will in
an effort to share with us the handwriting
and signatures of different family members
during the different stages of probation
on this will (1775, 1775, 1791). Harald very
graciously allowed me to share HIS
notes and photos with everyone on
my web site so that we all may view his
findings, and possibly add insight as well.
Thanks, Harald. You may view this 1775 will
on my web site at http://wespatterson.com/patt/patt_reksten.html.

Marty
Grant descends from another group of Pattersons who also settled in
the western NC and north Ga region. Marty started an E-mail List Service
for those of us who descend from Pattersons who migrated through
the area of upstate SC, western NC, north Ga, and eastern TN.
Many of us have had good success in trading information and resources
via this new list serv. I highly recommend that you subscribe
to this list. Just follow the link below.
In February
of 2004, I started
an E-mail List Service for those of us who descend from the BLACK
families
who migrated through the area of upstate SC, western NC, north
Ga, and eastern TN.
Based on the success of the Pattersons of NC genealogy ListServ,
I felt this was a good opportunity for the same type of endeavor
with the BLACKs. If you are interested in some focused research on
the BLACK family, then follow the link below.
